“Constitutional Values as a Foundation for Court Decisions: Harmonisation of Approaches and Interpretations” Dialogue: The Aspen Institute Kyiv Held an Event for Judges of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

On May 16, the Aspen Institute Kyiv held the “Constitutional Values as a Foundation for Court Decisions: Harmonisation of Approaches and Interpretations” Dialogue.

The event was part of the program “Justice, Law, and Society.” The program’s activities aim to create a platform for dialogue among professionals in law, public administration, and human rights advocacy to deepen their understanding of self, mission, and the phenomena of legal and political reality.

The dialogue brought together Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and Judges of the Supreme Court to foster institutional cooperation.

Opening remarks were delivered by Denis Poltavets, Director of Program Development at the Aspen Institute Kyiv; Stanislav Kravchenko, President of the Supreme Court; and Oksana Hryshchuk, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss:

  • The challenges of democratic governance
  • Addressing society’s demand for justice
  • Tools for ensuring the stability of the constitutional order and protecting fundamental human rights and freedoms
  • Mechanisms for inter-institutional cooperation in the implementation of constitutional norms

Denis Poltavets, Director of Program Development at the Aspen Institute Kyiv, and Olena Boryslavska, Head of the Department of Constitutional Law at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Doctor of Law, Professor, moderated the discussion.

Olena Fomina, Policy Program Director at the Aspen Institute Kyiv, coordinated the event.
