Natalie Jaresko: Financial and Economic Security is the Foundation for Ukraine’s Recovery and Rebuilding

Natalie Jaresko, Chairperson of the Aspen Institute Kyiv Supervisory Board, said during the 15th annual Kyiv Security Forum that Ukraine’s security must be based on economic and financial security.
“It is essential to have economic and financial security because the state’s future is not just a matter of military or political security, which we need. Today, we must start thinking about all the complex tasks related to the country’s recovery and reconstruction. The first step is understanding the social contract between the government and citizens, how to build relationships between them in the future, and how we will improve our democracy, for which people are dying every day. We will not be able to restore the country without our people.”
Jaresko also emphasized the challenges Ukraine needs to address: how to provide economic opportunities and bring back the maximum number of citizens among the 8 million refugees. According to her, their return will increase the country’s economic potential for revival.
Ms. Natalie noted that the country’s reconstruction must strictly follow EU standards.
“We must do this by ensuring cooperation and by European Union standards. We must also do this in an environmentally friendly, ‘green way,’ without the Soviet legacy and environmental pollution of water and air. This has become even more relevant during this terrible war. The best ‘green’ practices must come to Ukraine, and we must work on using this potential. Ukraine has shown its desire to live according to these best practices,” emphasized Jaresko.
Global Security is built on the rule of Law and Order
Natalie Jaresko highlighted that Ukraine’s victory would guarantee the preservation of the international rule of law and global order.
“The global economic situation depends on whether the rule of law prevails, not brute force. Ukraine’s victory ensures the preservation of the international rule of law and global order and creates guarantees of this system for other countries.”
Natalie Jaresko believes Ukraine is ready to live according to the world’s best European and NATO standards.
“Moreover, we can ensure our security in NATO and the world only if we have financial and economic security. We need to work today to develop this vision to implement these changes,” said Jaresko.
