Michael Froman, American lawyer, diplomat, and President of the Council on Foreign Relations, met with members of the Aspen-community

These days, Michael Froman, an American lawyer, diplomat, and President of the Council on Foreign Relations, visited Kyiv. During his visit, Ambassador Froman met with members of the Aspen community.

Michael Froman served in President Obama’s cabinet as the U.S. Trade Representative, playing a key role in shaping U.S. trade policy. Ambassador Froman has significant expertise in global economic discussions and has contributed notably to major international agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Natalie Jaresko, Chairperson of the Aspen Institute Kyiv Supervisory Board, gave a welcoming speech.

During the meeting, Michael Froman shared his thoughts on possible changes in U.S. foreign policy, support for Ukraine, relations with Russia and China, America’s participation in international alliances, and a broader geopolitical overview. Naturally, the participants could not avoid discussing the upcoming U.S. elections, their impact on support for Ukraine, and responses to global challenges, particularly Russian aggression. The attendees actively questioned Mr. Froman about maintaining global attention on Ukraine and deepening partnerships with African and Asian countries.

In conclusion, Michael Froman shared that his last time in Kyiv was in 1996. Nearly twenty years later, he is just as happy to meet with his Ukrainian friends and enjoy tasty coffee.
