Social contract as a platform for change: An initiative of the Business and Society seminar alumni

The social contract is the basis for harmonious interaction between civil society, business, and the state. Its relevance in the challenges facing Ukraine is becoming even more crucial. Since the spring of 2022, The Aspen Institute Kyiv has supported a dialogue of leaders dedicated to the social contract for Ukraine. Understanding the vision of the future and discussing key topics around which society will unite is an important component of our country’s development and the right to choose our path. The Institute encourages the discussion of ideas related to the concept of social contract and its general and specific features that are important for individual sectors and society.

At the initiative of the alumni of the Institute’s Business and Society seminars, a seminar for entrepreneurs was held in the Carpathians (Ivano-Frankivsk region). This event was part of further developing the Business and Society program for the alumni community.

Through group work, participants not only created a space for dialogue but also cooperated by creating projects to positively change Ukraine’s socio-economic environment.

Yegor Grygorenko, moderator of Aspen Institute Kyiv, member of the KSE Board, partner at Deloitte, head of the Consulting Department in Deloitte Ukraine, and Vitaliy Filatov, CEO of Vederstad Ukraine, moderated the seminar.

Andriy Semaniv (entrepreneur, Ivano-Frankivsk) and Denys Biriukov (entrepreneur, Odesa) participated in the preparation of the event with program coordination of the event by Alina Shklyaruk (Seminar Program Director, the Aspen Institute Kyiv).

During entrepreneurs’ seminars, participants often emphasize that business responsibility is not limited to economic performance—it is an active player in shaping social reality and creating a space where harmony between social and business interests becomes an opportunity for everyone.

The Institute encourages reflections on the future of the country and the social contract. The exchange of ideas in a circle of people with different perspectives helps people broaden their horizons and thus strengthen themselves and their leadership communities.
