The works of the Aspen Institute Kyiv alumni are included in the selection “100 books that will help you understand Ukraine”

Shall we talk about books that opened Ukraine up to the world?

Ukrainian PEN and Sensor Media have prepared a selection titled “100 Books That Will Help You Understand Ukraine” — a list of works that shape the global perception of Ukraine. It is especially pleasing to see that among the authors included in the list are alumni of the Aspen Institute Kyiv — leaders who expand the horizons of knowledge about our country.

This selection presents a wide range of literature from or about Ukraine published after 1991. The main focus is on books translated into English, German, and French. The list includes nonfiction (history, politics, culture), fiction (prose and poetry), and children’s books. Each uniquely represents Ukrainian identity and helps the reader gain a better understanding of our country.

Among those included in the list are alumni of the Institute:

  1. Vakhtang Kipiani, World War II. Uninvented stories: (Not) ours, alive, different.
  2. Yevhen Klopotenko, The Authentic Ukrainian Kitchen: Recipes from a Native Chef.
  3. Olena Braichenko, Maryna Hrymych: Ukraine. Food and History.
  4. Vakhtang Kipiani, Dissidents: Hearing the Truth.
  5. Vakhtang Kipiani, Feminine country.
  6. Yaroslav Hrytsak, Nadiyka Gerbish, A Ukrainian Christmas.
  7. Alisa Lozhkina, Permanent Revolution: Art of Ukraine in the XX – early XXI century.
  8. Alisa Lozhkina, The Art of Ukraine.
  9. Andriy Lyubka, Karbid.
  10. Larysa Denysenko, Maya and her mothers.
  11. Kateryna Babkina, The Hat and the Whale.

The entire list you can find here.

We thank our graduates for contributing to the development of Ukrainian literature. We wish you all an enjoyable reading experience.
