The Role of Teenagers in the Future of Ukraine: Reflections from the Moderators of the “Aspen Teens: Fight for UA Dream” Project

Regardless of their place of residence, Ukrainian teenagers are optimistic about the situation in Ukraine, believe in victory, and envision the development and rapid recovery of our country, in which they wish to take an active part. These young people exhibit characteristics typical of the adult leaders with whom the Aspen Institute Kyiv collaborates. This indicates that the youth is already ready to face future challenges and become drivers of positive change in the world.
Previously, we shared reflections from the “Aspen Teens: Fight for UA Dream” project participants. Seminar moderators Anastasiia Donska, project manager of the online tutoring initiative “Osvitniy Soup” from the NGO “Teach For Ukraine,” and Viacheslav Rudnytskyi, CEO at Savvy, also shared their impressions of the seminars.
Anastasiia Donska:
“Teenagers are facing many challenges right now, such as alienation after relocation, difficulties adapting to new conditions, and finding a community with similar interests and a desire for dialogue on socio-political topics. Young people lack a safe circle for communication, both in the family and at school. They are eager to express themselves on socio-political topics, possess philosophical categories at a good level, and are open to in-depth exploration of complex topics.”
Viacheslav Rudnytskyi:
“Teenagers want to participate in the development of Ukraine but are unsure if they will have the means and opportunities to do so. These doubts also make it difficult for them to discuss their role in the country’s life. However, they constructively discuss issues of justice, the safety of loved ones, and possible interactions with other Ukrainians.”
The “Aspen Teens: Fight for UA Dream” project is a platform where active young people aged 14-17 can discuss the current challenges facing Ukraine and how they can influence their resolution. Additionally, participants actively engage in dialogue on the formation of Ukrainian identity and the importance of upholding European values in the context of post-war reconstruction.
The project is implemented by the Aspen Institute Kyiv in partnership with the Klitschko Foundation.
