The Aspen Institute’s Kyiv Aspen Discussion: “The War Against Ukraine: External and Internal Dispositions” with Taras Chmut, Head of the “Come Back Alive” Foundation

Extreme candor under certain conditions can knock you off your feet. However, it is the very “cold shower” that sobers you up and helps you understand which direction to channel your efforts.
Members of the Aspen Institute Kyiv Community met with Taras Chmut. He is well-known as the head of the “Come Back Alive” Foundation and a military analyst. Still, he is also a reserve sergeant in the Ukrainian Navy-Marine Corps and a participant in the ATO, who continued his volunteer work even while serving in the military.
We quickly organized this meeting, aligning schedules. The topics of conversation were tough but evident, as they concerned everyone. We all strive to better understand the current challenges and what each of us can do in our place to advance victory. Everyone understood the value of such dialogue.
Taras Chmut discussed the current situation on the battlefield, prospects and expectations for 2024, recruitment, and mobilization. Participants engaged in discussion, asked questions and reflected on these topics.
Andriy Kulakov, Program Coordinator of the Aspen Institute Kyiv Community, moderated the meeting.
We are grateful to all participants for the honest conversation. Such meetings not only broaden perspectives but also help find new strength and support in difficult times.
