The Aspen Institute Kyiv honoured Oleksandr Pertsovskyi for being an example of value-based leadership

During the annual alumni meeting — Aspen Reunion, the Aspen Institute Kyiv awards members of the Community who have demonstrated value-based leadership over the past year. Nowadays, in times of severe turbulence and uncertainty, the role of leaders in our society has increased greatly. Alumni of the Institute are looking for new opportunities to strengthen the country, contribute their resources and knowledge to solving social challenges.

The award of value-oriented leadership in 2024 received Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of JSC “Ukrainian Railway”, a participant of the seminar “Responsible Leadership” — 18 (2018).

From the first hours of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian Railways canceled paid transportation and reoriented trains to evacuation work. The railroaders were the last who took people out of the areas where the fighting was ongoing and were the first who came to the deoccupied territories right after Ukrainian Armed Forces. Today, 11,000 employees of the company are defending Ukraine at the forefront.

Ukrainian Railways is also doing some fundamental work for citizens during the war:

  • They are launching new international connections, for example, to Bratislava and Budapest, and working on new trains to Poland.
  • They are creating special children’s coaches, for example, on the Odessa–Yasinia, Dnipro–Truskavets, Kharkiv–Uzhhorod routes.
  • They are commissioning new coaches, as was the example with the Dnipro–Lviv route.

We are grateful to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi for demonstrating the “iron changes” in practice and contributing to the future of Ukraine.
