“Family: Concept, Principles and Policy” — the Aspen Institute Kyiv held the final seminarof the ”Person, Family and Society” Program for this year

The Aspen Institute Kyiv held the final seminar for this year, “Family: Concept, Principles and Policy” as part of the program “Person, Family and Society” on November 30-December 1, 2024.
The discussion included not only family policy experts, but also representatives of various industries — business, government, public sector, culture, and media – to ensure a more diverse range of views.
The seminar covered a wide range of topics. Over the course of three days, participants explored the evolution of the concept of family in the Ukrainian and global contexts, and considered the role of family in society, including its social, economic and cultural functions. Considerable attention was paid to current challenges to family relationships, such as war, demographic changes, migration, economic instability, and their impact on family life.
Participants also discussed possible ways to develop family policy, strategic directions for its improvement, and ways to involve civil society, government, and business in the development and implementation of solutions to adapt to the above challenges.
Anton Drobovych, Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, and Denis Poltavets, Director of Program Development at the Aspen Institute Kyiv, moderated the dialogue. Maryna Zakharova, Manager of the Human, Family, and Society Programme at The Aspen Institute Kyiv, coordinated the seminar.
We believe that the solutions developed will help to rethink the role of the family institution in a deeper way and will become the basis for state policy in this area, and the discussions have broadened the perspectives of the participants.
The program ’Person, Family, and Society’ is implemented by The Aspen Institute Kyiv at the initiative of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the Coordination Centre for the Development of Family Education and Child Care, with the support of the EU and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine.
