Aspen Institute Kyiv participated in Aspen — GMF Bucharest Forum 2022 as an institutional partner
The Annual Aspen — GMF Bucharest Forum was held in Romania on November 29 — 30. Forum is a platform for discussions, which seek to address topical questions and tackle the complex issues of increasingly dynamic and volatile regional and international contexts.
The event was organized by Aspen Institute Romania and the German Marshall Fund.
Aspen Institute Kyiv joined the event as an institutional partner.
The event reunited business representatives, officials, and the strategic community. Such a three-dimensional format of ideas exchange allows to effectively analyze challenges and consider effective response. The geography of the Forum participants covered Europe, North America, NATO partner countries, the Middle East and Asia.
First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska addressed the audience of the Forum. Ukraine was also represented by Natalie Jaresko, the Chairperson of Aspen Institute Kyiv Supervisory Board, and Lesya Vasylenko, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Aspen Institute Kyiv alumna.
The Russia-Ukraine war was the central theme of this year’s Forum. It was about the consequences of the full-scale invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine: both those that are felt now and those that will manifest themselves in the future. The speakers paid special attention to the topic of post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
On the basis of Forum discussions, it is possible to draw a conclusion about the further desire of the civilized world to support our country in the struggle for its freedom. Thus, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated in his speech that the members of the Alliance will continue to stand with Ukraine as long as it defends itself from Russia’s criminal aggressive war.
In his turn, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană stressed the enduring importance of the transatlantic bond. It is worth noting that Mr Geoană co-founded the Aspen Institute Romania.
