The Aspen Institute’s Kyiv online meeting with cybersecurity business representatives — Members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine discussing the possibility of establishing a cybersecurity committee at the ACC
Protecting Ukrainian cyberspace is one of the most important ways to fight Russian aggression. Thus, according to the National Security Service of Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has attempted more than 9,000 cyberattacks on various Ukrainian institutions.
During the Cybersecurity Dialogue Program events in 2022-2024, participants repeatedly raised the feasibility of creating a sustainable platform for representatives of the cybersecurity market, in particular, based on international business associations.
Supporting this request, on April 5, 2024, the Aspen Institute Kyiv, with the expert support of Yuriy Kotliarov, Partner at Asters Law Firm, held an online meeting with cybersecurity business representatives — members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine to discuss the possibility of establishing a cybersecurity committee at the ACC. During the online event, the vision of the Cybersecurity Committee, its mission, and its functions were presented.
Representatives of the cybersecurity industry noted the need to create a sustainable platform for advocating initiatives, organizing public-private dialogues, and communicating with the professional community in cybersecurity. The meeting participants pointed out that the Cybersecurity Committee should be an independent structure within the ACC with its program of activities and cross-sectoral nature.
In the discussion participated: “Asters Law Firm, EPAM Systems, Cisco Systems, Deloitte, EY Ukraine, Genesis, IBM, 10Guards, PwC Ukraine and KPMG Ukraine.
We thank the participants for the productive discussion and are currently collecting proposals to improve the concept of the ACC Committee.
For more information on cooperation in establishing a cybersecurity committee at the American Chamber of Commerce, please get in touch with Olena Fomina, Manager of the Cybersecurity Dialogue Program: of@aspeninstitutekyiv.org.
Based on the results, it is planned to send a collective appeal to the ACC to consider the issue of establishing a committee.
