The Aspen Institute Kyiv has become a partner in hosting the international security forum GMF Bucharest Forum 2024

The Aspen Institute Kyiv continues its international efforts to advocate for Ukraine’s interests on global platforms.
The Aspen Institute Romania hosted the GMF Bucharest Forum 2024, and the Aspen Institute Kyiv was a knowledge partner. The event brought together experts and leaders from various countries to discuss key challenges in regional security.
Denis Poltavets, Director of Program Development at Aspen Institute Kyiv, moderated two panel discussions that gathered international policy, defense, and humanitarian experts. During the panel discussion “Regional Security and Perspectives for the War in Ukraine,” speakers explored the war’s impact on regional stability and its broader geopolitical consequences. Panelists included:
- Simona Cojocaru, State Secretary for Defense Policy Planning and International Relations, Ministry of National Defence of Romania
- Katarína Mathernová, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine (online)
- Andriy Shevchenko, Head of Mission to Ukraine, Ukrainian World Congress, Former Deputy Minister of Defence/ Aspen Alumnus
The panel discussion “The Reconstruction of Ukraine and the Role of CEE Countries” focused on Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts and regional partner support. Participants included:
- Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s EU Integration (online)
- Kyrylo Kryvolap, Managing Partner at Civia UA and Founder of the NGO Center for Economic Recovery
- Spiros Lambridis, Ambassador, Special Envoy of Greece for Ukraine
- Jakub Landovsky, Executive Director, Aspen Central Europe, Former Czech Ambassador to NATO
- William Tompson, Head of the Eurasia Division, Global Relations and Co-operation Directorate, OECD
Additionally, with support from Aspen Institute Kyiv, Oleksandr Kubrakov, Former Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and former Minister for Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development, participated in the panel “Economic Security & the Supply Chain Conundrum.” Panelists focused on new approaches by governments and businesses to supply chain management, including strategies to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers and build more resilient, flexible networks, mainly focusing on solutions for the Black Sea region.
