Perspectives of Ukraine-U.S. Relations: the Aspen Institute Kyiv Hosting of Talk with Oksana Markarova
On October 17, the Aspen Institute Kyiv held a discussion with Oksana Markarova, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, on the topic “Contemporary Challenges for Ukraine and the World, and U.S. Priorities in Global Politics.” Members of the Aspen community participated in the discussion.
Ambassador Oksana Markarova spoke about the role of the U.S. in contemporary global politics, its involvement in the pro-Ukrainian coalition, and the defensive, financial, economic, and humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine by the United States. She also discussed what Ukraine can offer to the world.
During the Aspen talk, the following topics were addressed:
- The place of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on the overall U.S. agenda and the narratives currently prevailing in the U.S. regarding the war.
- Assistance from the United States to Ukraine (defense, financial, economic, and humanitarian) – how it has changed over the years of the war and the prospects for its expansion.
- Prospects for cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.
- The pre-election situation in the U.S. and its impact on relations with Ukraine.
- Situation in Israel and its consequences for the geopolitical situation.
In addition to Ambassador Oksana Markarova’s expert comments on Ukraine-U.S. relations and the global geopolitical situation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions, providing a better understanding of the overall context and significance of events.
The Aspen Institute Kyiv organizes meetings for community members, bringing together people who strive for the common good and exchange ideas in an atmosphere of trust. This meeting was another in a series of discussions on geopolitical topics with Ukrainian diplomats.
