The Aspen Institute Kyiv held Aspen Reunion – 2020 in Virtual Reality

On December 5, the annual meeting of graduates of The Aspen Institute Kyiv Aspen Reunion – 2020 took place in virtual reality. Despite the unusual format, the main feature of the traditional event remained the same the joy of the meeting and the atmosphere of friendly unity.

The event was attended by more than 150 participants, who were present in the form of avatars. We met and talked with friends, attended the traditional Aspen Institute Kyiv Awards Ceremony, witnessed a salute and even danced in a virtual disco hall.

During the official part, Natalia Yaresko, Chair of the Supervisory Board of The Aspen Institute Kyiv, welcomed the Community: “We will have to work together to find solutions to situations we have not yet encountered and this is true for both Ukrainian leaders and leaders all over the world. I am convinced that The Aspen Institute Kyiv is the platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas that will help all of us to seek and find these solutions in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. After all, building a society of a decent life depends on us.”

Yulia Tychkivska, Executive Director of The Aspen Institute Kyiv, shared the results of 2020: “In 2020, we held 61 events: 20 seminars, 33 talks and round tables, organized Ideas Festival online and 2 conferences, held 4 dialogue sessions. 17 events were held offline, and 43 took place online. We thank our partners, members of the Institute and donors for their support!”

Larysa Latypova, Director of The Aspen Community Program at The Kyiv Institute, shared her plans to update the format of work with the Community: “We strive to create a space of trust and interaction, where the energy of horizontal ties will flourish, as well as a continuous open dialogue on values in order to build a society of a decent life. We invite every graduate of Aspen Seminars to join the renewed Community. Membership will include participation in closed club events and dialogue panels, the opportunity to propose their own initiatives together with The Aspen Institute Kyiv.”

During the annual meeting, a traditional award ceremony for members of the Aspen Community took place. Congratulations to the winners of the Aspen Institute Kyiv Prize for the example of value-oriented leadership:

– Halyna Zagorodniuk, partner of the international law firm DLA Piper, participant of the seminar “Justice, Law and Society – 7″, for her contribution to the development of The Aspen Institute Kyiv. Halyna headed the team of lawyers of the international law firm DLA Piper, which developed the internal policies of The Aspen Institute in Kyiv. Galina’s team also provides legal support to the Institute in building institutional sustainability.

 Kateryna Zagoriy, co-founder of Zagoriy Foundation family charity foundation, participant of the seminar “Responsible Leadership  2”, for her contribution to the development of charity culture. Kateryna is the leader of Zagoriy Foundation, which regularly supports projects that promote the development of Ukrainian culture, education and science, and supports the social integration of less protected citizens.

 Sergiy Korsunsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan, participant of the seminar “Responsible Leadership 14″, for his contribution to the dissemination of the Aspen idea. Serhiy actively contributed to the organization and holding of events of The Aspen Institute in Kyiv, made a significant contribution to the development of the domestic diplomatic school and the representation of Ukraine in the international arena.

During the ceremony, the awards were presented by Natalia Yaresko, Chairof the Supervisory Board of The Aspen Institute Kyiv, and Serhiy Rogol, Member of the Supervisory Board of The Aspen Institute Kyiv.

Today, the Aspen Community has 1,085 members, including leaders in business, public sector, public administration, politics, science, media, education and culture.
